#22
#22 is up, so you should all read it!

Actually I posted it yesterday but haven't gotten around to writing a journal about it. Hmm. Where should I start?

Well, for one thing, I hate how I'm trying to establish Russell as the 'psycho' character and yet his title page just screams 'I have it together.' I wish I'd done something weirder for the first panel.

I'd like to thank him for this comic, by the way, because honestly, I can't make this shit up. After I did the McDonald's comic I thought about doing an "Offensive Advertising" series. So I asked a few people if any companies' ad campaigns bothered them, Russell included. And he told me pretty much exactly he said in that comic. It was awesome, especially since he had no idea that what he was saying was so ridiculous.

Anyway, I think this comic is kind of lazy, art-wise. But hopefully nobody else can tell the difference. ^_^ I devoted significantly less time to insanely tiny touch-ups this time around, and I think I should continue drawing them this way. See, normally I'd color them all zoomed in and end up doing little things that are almost unnoticable once you're looking at it actual size. So I didn't zoom in that much for this one. So I guess it's not really lazy; just practical.

I guess the only problem is, then, is that I really rushed this one and I didn't do a double check. Right now I'm noticing that i forgot to shade Russell's face in panel 8, and Wayne's in the last panel(Wayne is my sister's boyfriend, by the way, who sent me an e-mail a while back asking to be in it. Oh, and you can give him credit for the line he's saying.)...but I guess it's not that noticeable. Still...I dunno, I'm not overly proud of this one, or anything. Ah, well.

...Gah! I'm being nitpicky! I hope you guys like it anyway! ^_^

It marks the end of the Offensive Advertising series. Next week's won't be a regular comic, I decided to do a guest spot for http://www.intershadows.com ...but don't worry! It'll still be amusing even if you're not familliar with that comic.

Oh, and, about my comic book. Yeah, I stopped working on it a while ago because the pubilsher I found could only do comics with a max of 60 pages. But I found a new publisher, and there's no probelms with that one! So I'm going to start work on it again. I'm not very far at all. I mean, I wrote it and it's about a hundred times longer than I expected...so I dont' have a clue when it's going to be finished. I'll keep you guys posted, though, ok?

P

P.S.: Patty caught the Hayao Miyazaki reference in #21. Did YOU?

Who's the guy in the second-to-last panel? :)

I like Paige's expressions, especially towards the end. Or should I say "your expressions"? I'm not sure how that whole "talking to the author who is also a character" thing works. :) And the 4th-wall bleed at the end works well.

Russell reminds me of some people I knew at Uni, when we came up with things like Roccoco Pops (gilded cherub & shell breakfast cereal -- pour crushed velvet over some today!) and the Slippy Bar (because people would probably buy chocolate-covered lard if it had a catchy name and good marketing campaign). Uh... probably best not to ask about the Energy Slippy.

Anyway, since you're doing this for fun, I figure that anything that makes the drawing process less painful is teh gud. :)

The guy in the second to last panel is my buddy Kaleb. He's cool. So cool, in fact, that he came up with the name Blue Moon Road. Well, sort of. It was something that came up in conversation and I loved the sound of it, so.

Yeah, you can just say it's me. even though it doesn't look like me at all. Oh well. i'm glad you like how I do expressions...it's the thing I work on the most. Ever since I started drawing I've put expressions first, I always thought it was the most important thing to learn. well, since I put it before perspective, proportion and things like that, I'm kind of paying for it now. But oh well! At least I can draw a good raised eyebrow. =|

Dude! The products you made up remind me of this one episode of Clone High. They had this energy shake called X-treme Blu that was made out of oatmeal and blue housepaint...but it sold like mad thanks to "X-treme" marketing. It was hilarious.

Yeah, you're right...I am doing this for fun. hahah. I tend to forget that, really. ^_^

Is it that Patty and Stefan are actually shape-changed foxes, a la Pom Poko? >;)

Yes, I noticed that too -- but I thought my idea was funnier. ;) Pom Poko is... kind of odd, in a "mythical Japanese creatures who look like racoons and can make things like bridges and ships out of their testicles" kind of way. A little sad, too -- not as sad as Grave of Fireflies, but things aren't wrapped up happily like, say, Porco Rosso or My Neighbor Totoro.

(One of my co-workers has a couple of Miyazaki collections on DVD, produced for the Chinese market (but with an English translation as well). The joys of working in a company where most people are big ol' geeks. :) I haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle yet, though.)

Speaking of Japanese media, have you watched Fruits Baskets? If not, I'd suggest you give it a try. :)

Me and Stefan making bridges out of our testicles? Sign me up!

That sort of thing reconvinces me that North American culture is entirely boring. Granted, we *are* spared tenticle hentai, but I suppose we have to learn to take the bad with the good ^_^

The creatures are called tanuki, if you want to do more reading; but just because it's Malaysians that have disembodied vampiric head'n'entrails that feast on the blood of pregnant women (penanggal) doesn't mean that North Americans are completely lacking in weird stuff -- Moth Men, alien abductions, sasquatch, Paris Hilton...

However, even though I don't know you guys outside the confines of Paige's comic-strip, I find it hard to imagine a situation where calling Stefan a "Paris Hilton" would be appropriate. :)

Well, a few years back he was Cher for halloween. So perhaps it's not that much of a stretch ;)

Dude, I totally should have read these comments earlier. I had noticed me in the second last panel but just though he was a random creation. I should have asked. Anyways that's awesome, thanks Paige.
